The iron and steel axes both look like their still made out of stones, but different types.
Still really neat.

 

Yeah, I'm not much of a graphic artist. I'm working on it, but it'll take time for me to sort out what the heck I'm doing.

Quite interesting though for beginner tools I'd be thinking more about wooden tools. Iron seems more advanced kind of intermediate. Still nice concept for your first mod.

 

It's very unrealistic to see a wooden pickaxe digging through hard stone...

 

you got a point there, maybe have a recipe to turn wood into hard wood.

 

I guess that's better. Still weird. Maybe you can craft it at the furnace. ;p
