Closed Starbound and Visual C++ 2015 installer issues

Turns out I did have to install service pack 1, but i'm still getting the access denied error, I am an administrator of my computer, I checked

Whenever I try to install the vc_redist.X86 or x64 I get "0x80080005 - Server execution failed" What do I do?

 

The error persists even with my antivirus disabled, here is the error log the installer gives me.

 

From my rooting around for over a day, i've found that VC++ 2015 actually requires windows update (or atleast, the windows update service), even if you're doing a manual install. If you're installing VC++ and it fails right at the end, check the logs, if it says "failed to start WU service" you have an issue with windows update.

In my case, I have at some point received a virus that not only disabled WU but completely removed it. The only way i'll be able to play SB again is if I reinstall my OS. Unfortunately that's not something I can do right now, so I guess i'm a little stuck.

While searching for an answer, I found that another piece of software that required VC 2015 was able to package the required .dll's in the software so that those with earlier versions of VC++ could still run it. Would that be possible with starbound?

C++ 2015 thing. I can't download it for some reason, but I think it's the thing you'd need. If someone can send me the setup installer thing, that'd be great. If C++ is required to run your game, you have an obligation to find a solution to the problem. I paid you guys money for a video game, and it would make sense that you would deliver a working product that doesn't depend on software from a company famous for incompetence (Microsoft). Am I going to have to buy a new computer or something? I'm really hoping you guys can produce a fix for this that doesn't depend on me spending an entire evening trying fruitlessly to get a solution to a problem I don't really understand.


Status update for my case: I found out from Microsoft support I have one metric buttload of viruses/trojans which disabled microsoft update service as well as other irrelevant things. If you're having trouble, check in with an anti-virus program ASAP.

 

It looks like your windows update service is not running for whatever reason. You might be able to find more information regarding this in your system log. (eventvwr.msc -> System Log)

 

The fix for this seems to be opening your services.msc and locating the "Windows Update" service. If it's stopped - start it, and it should work. If it's not there at all as is the issue on my system, you may have at some point received a virus (I forget the name) that deleted or corrupted WU, unfortunately a very difficult thing to fix.

 

Well, the installer normally attempts this automatically prior to installation. Moreover, he just installed Windows 7 SP1, so it was working only a little bit ago. So this is a new problem, and it might be fixable.

 

Steam won't fully uninstall it and even if I have all the requirements, it won't launch. Why not do your part and take a look into it and help fix it?

 

After roughly 2 hours of searching around for fixes, i did the following, i went into add/remove programs and removed every instance of visual c++ runtime, which basically removes the service pack 1 for windows 7. i redownloaded the sp1 and installed it, then went into the prereq folder and ran the x 86.exe first and then the x64. And i now have starbound back. i also recommend getting any and all of the optional updates that might be listed as a failsafe. also as another side note, i did update to the most current .net framework (4.5.2) ... Now off to fix my damn ship again! lol

Must we uninstall EVERY previous version of C++? e.g. 2008 build, 2010 build etc?[DOUBLEPOST=1440644725][/DOUBLEPOST]I've attempted to remove service pack 1, which was unsuccessful due to the computer coming with service pack 1 already installed. I tried to reinstall it and it still comes up with being unable to install the last part of the 2015 C++ update. I've never had trouble with C++ before...

0x800704ec is a strange error to see here. It means "The computer is in safe mode." However, googling around I discovered that it might also result from having your computer in selective start mode (if you've used msconfig to disable startup items for instance.)

The second error seems to point back to missing KB299whatever, so make sure you have that installed, or that you can install it.

If you can't install it then one thing you might want to try is performing the standard "Fix Windows Update" tango:

From an elevated command prompt utter:

I've tried every step I could come across here or microsoft forums. The package you've mentioned earlier (K22...something) doesn't install even manually (which I didn't need, since my computer already has that feature or something). So I guess I'll just have to wait till I've bought a new pc or say goodbye to all chucklefish games (since I'm assuming the same issue will present itself with all the other games as well). It was a fun ride.

 

Hi. I've been trying to get this to work for a couple of days now and I have tried all suggested fixes for it but for some reason I get stuck at a certain point in the process. This is everything I've done so far and all the errors associated:

Tried to run game in admin mode

Triedto install the service pack 2 different ways and got theses errors

I have the correct Visual C++ Update so that's not the issue.
