Space battles

    it occurs to me, one big addition id like to see is the addition of battles between spaceships in multiple different environments.

    be it in the orbit of planets, asteroid belts, the corona of a star, or around space stations (anything that would make the surroundings interesting.)

    i could see two ways these kind of fights could be realized.

    1. when entering the battle, first you control your ship in the style of a top down arcade shooter on a 2d plane (think asteroids), and basically need to destroy or disable the enemy ships while dealing with the environmental factors.

    2. after damaging an enemy ship enough, it could give you the option to enter the ship with a raiding party and fight its crew similar to how normal dungeon crawls, and side missions starbound go (like the mining facility).

    you win the fight, when you kill the crew and take control of the enemy bridge. or you could just destroy it in the direct battle, which would also win you the mission.

    it would be cool if these space battles could be randomly generated side quests, that you could access from aboard your ship. (example: fight pirates in the area, defend a space station, assist apex rebels)

    there would also be a couple of features that id like to see coming with that.

    - being able to equip crew members with weapons and armor (actually id like that in general)
    - an item system to your ship that is similar to what exists for your character. different unique weapons, better armor and shields, better engines, special attacks, energy management etc.
    - being able to scrap conquered enemy ship for tech that can be used to upgrade your own ship
    - entirely taking control of the enemy ship. youd be able to go back and forth to move stuff from your old ship over after taking full control of the enemy vessel, and then move on with your new ship

    this way you could get access to ships from other races, or you could get entirely unique ships that you can only take over from NPC's

    the size of the ships youre fighting would also come into play. attacking and entering a bigger ship will be a decent risk and might face you with a more dangerous enemy crew. but if you manage to conquer that ship, you can upgrade to a bigger class this way.


    i realize that this would present a larger update to the game, especially since probably dozens of unique ships would have to be added to make it interesting enough, in addition to the assets that would have to be created. but it would definitely be a worthy addition.

    The Bigger Ships the better? jeez
    I'd like to see some kind of upgrades like additional guns, shotguns rocketry and emps!
    Direct teleporters,laser beam weaponry!
    Dodge chances and other things! Like seriously we dont need those fins and wings to be only decorative!
    You could also upgrade the teleportation speed or less misses when teleporting crew into planets instead of enemy ships
