Closed Serious lag, game nearly unplayable.

I'm experiencing a lot of lag while playing Starbound. Even when I close all programs except Starbound, it's still incredibly choppy. This made itself most apparent when I was trying to do the obstacle course to get the dash tech. The actual dash always happens a couple seconds after the button input, making the timed dash puzzles virtually impossible.

Any advice on how to stop this lag?

I'm playing the most recent stable version on Max OS X Yosemite version 10.10.3
