But really, they aren't raising dead plants, they're reproducing and harvesting them. It's less necromancy, more livestock farming if you want to look at it that way.

 

I don't know where you got necromancer. Humans eat meat and raise cattle and hunt venison for it. Sense Florans are "Flauna", them raising crops is like us raising animals to slaughter.

 

We don't live in giant hollowed-out cows, though.

But about main question... First - necromancy is about raise death. Farming plants is about raise living crops. If floran farmer will eat what he growth - we can call him a cannibal since florans did not separate themselves from other plants like we separate ourselves from other animals. For us there is a big differences between humans and cows so we can eat cows and other meat without any doubt (we still have vegans as a big exception) . But for Florans it looks like all plants are same no matter of species or sort.

Exactly, what says that Florans "did not separate themselves from other plants"? They're clearly a separate species, so it's not cannibalism, unless eating pigs counts as cannibalism if referring to humans.

 

It is we who seen them as a clearly separate. But you can play as a floran and every time you scan or look at any kind of plants you can see comments where floran define this plants as 'leafy friends' or for example floran want to grow big and wisdom like the old protectorate tree. And his/here rage when floran see plastic plant on station - "stab impostor plant"! From codex stories (one about floran capture an avian) we also can see that florans basically dont understand that meat creatures have emotions, like plants. And this is why they really so easy to kill and eat humans, apex and other races. They dont care about if they prey have mind but it seems like florans care more about emotions and consider all plants have them.

 

That doesn't mean tha tthey think that they're of literally the same species. If anything, they see plants as some sort of "pet", and who would be willing to eat their own pets?

 

Ahem... we eat our cows still. we tame them, make them our pets and grow em for food. (And in some countries dogs and even cats are food too). I did not see in game any pet relation between floran and other plants. Floran pet on ship is the snake and all this cages for hunting prey they have make me thing florans rather will have apex or avian as "pet" in cage than some flower in the pot. And florans have greenfingers. this mysterious advanced florans who can mind control plants and with this symbiosis - reverse engineer entire space technologies! Greenfingers usually have places as leaders of tribes, florans respected them very much and this power to talk with other plants...

 

We're never told exactly which plants are used by Greenfingers. For all we know, it could be that Florans are just one of several organisms that form the same species, with the other organisms being, for example, the plants used by Greenfingers.
You're mixing up the concepts of livestock and pets. You're not supposed to have an emotional bond with livestock (After all, you're going to kill it once it's useful to do so). Pets are supposed to provide companionship, and it's normal to form emotional bonds with them (After all, normally pet owners don't kill their pets willingly, except if we count euthanizing them if needed). Of course, that doesn't mean that the same species can be used for both purposes.
Finally, Florans actually DO eat plants. Ttheir inspect lines of some crops (Such as Oculemons, Neonmelons and Plussplums) practically state this, with the last ones being outright said to be "delicious" by them.

 

Florans live in giant trees sometimes and it seems greenfingers just make this trees grown so big and hollow that it can be used as a house for floran. Second - florans rather uses bones for crafting than wood. So it looks like they dont want to "kill" plants for materials. But it is normal to use meat as curtain for em. Third - They have plants wrapped they ships and basically - any other "floran" technology. Even if greenfingers uses only several similar to florans plants - all other florans don't know about it and threat all plant at this "similar species".

Actually - we are play as Protectorate graduate florans. "Not many florans choose to be Protectors. It is a honor for floran" . So first of all - this floran is exiled from tribe because he choose not to hunt, but live in peace with "meat races". he choose to use technology and search other things in universe, not only hunt! second - this floran was somehow make himself worthy to train and graduate as a Protector! He live for years on Earth with all other race classmates in the same dormitory. He watch TV and Films, play some console games, use this other cool and simple for other civilised races stuff. And of course this current floran is adapted to eat other plants and even cook some meals from them! But again - this is a special floran. so special - he exile himself from tribe and seek new opportunities.

 

If Florans see other plants as "leafy friends", then that would make them equivalent to a human vegan. And knowing this makes me hate them even more.

 

The second point more or less falls flat, or, at least, is weakened, by how they also provide the line about plastic plants, and how, for some reason, ALL Floran crewmembers have the same lines, which could be due to game mechanics (Namely, all crew NPCs have the same inspect quotes as the Player Character of their own race).

 

Inspection lines are statically set in the object configs. They have a generic description, then you can set a race specific description if you wish. Which is why some races may have the same text for the same items.
