Persistent frame rate drops (version 1.2)

Hi guys, so I have recently started playing Starbound again (finally have time to) and I have found that the frame rate keeps on randomly dropping, and drastically too. At intervals ranging from 5-30 seconds, my game will slow down to around 5 fps for a few seconds, and then revert back to normal speed, and then the process repeats. I have no explanation as to why this could happen, I use a powerful computer that I got a couple of years ago, and only have one saved game.
I was hoping someone could help? I have really enjoyed this game in the past and I don't want this glitch to ruin it
