Been watching season 3 of star trek enterprise and discoverd that 2 of the races have the similar name and idea as the races in starbound. We have the Primate that is like humans, Arboreal that is similar to apex, Aquatic that is some what like Hylotl but then the last one of the Xindi races are the Avians similar to starbounds Avians. It´s bird race and both share the same name. So I was thinking if chucklefish got some influence from star trek enterprise or if it´s just a coincident. Just taught it was a bit funny.
Since Star Trek is one of the biggest SF references there is, that goes by itself. Starbound is about that and in some way about Pop culture
To be honest, beast-like races are nothing new in SciFi and Fantasy. In fact, Star Trek wasn't exactly the first on many thing. It does make sense to see inspiration from Star Trek though considering it's basically the defining franchise in the genre next to Star Wars.
