We all know this corporation is portrayed as a soulless corporation with no qualms about how they make their money. They couldn't care less about employees, but it occurred to me. What else are they hiding? Do they have government ties/contracts? Experimental stations beneath the headquarters/location stores? Or are they in league with aliens in some way?

Whether that be testing crashed ship or serving them for a head start in corporation life and technology. It's not hard to imagine aliens may have something to do with it. You have the alien in the Stardew Valley "E", a random ufo that flies across the screen at the end of the day when you check on how much you earned. Not to mention the Galaxy Sword that you earn in what appears to be an old alien ruin. And the owner of the Casino, Mr. Qi. Whatever they may be up to, let's see what you think. What is your conspiracy about Joja?

Now, I'm not saying Aliens...but I'm definitely hinting at it. lol

I mean, it's quite possible they have Government contracts which allow them to experiment with Alien tech/material. That could be the answer to some of the odd questions surrounding them.

Now that I've said it in another thread... I'm pretty sure that I think Joja is funding the Ferngill Republic government. They seem to have an entire section of laws protecting specifically their business ventures, even at the cost of people that own land that's been damaged/rendered unusable by their ventures.

I also wouldn't be surprised if they drugged their employees into being compliant with the soul sucking aspects of the job, if we take the skeleton in the intro scene at face value. It could even be in the food and drinks they sell, slowly numbing people into thinking that everything Joja Corp does is okay. Maybe magic makes it less effective, explaining why people who seem more related to the occult are more likely to be upset with Joja.... Which, Jodi being somewhat of a stepford smiler, as she's one of the most frequent shoppers. Pam is the other major shopped, and while she isn't happy, she also is very.... Numb and uncaring about Joja. Especially since I have to imagine that the loss of tax income from Pierre's could have contributed to the bus going unrepaired to the point if breaking down.

I agree there. I think they put something in the drinks, especially at work. That way they can say: "Here is a free Joja drink!" Or something to that effect. Makes the employees feel like the company cares. And it's laced with a more potent dose of their "concoction", keeps most of their employees docile and numb to the tyrannical corporate monster sucking the life from them.

I wouldn't be surprised if they were funding them. I mean, it's not like they lack the currency to do so. They make, well... an unknown amount of money. But based off their size and employee count, I'd assume it's in the millions. If not billions.

Joja seems like the typical big business focused on itself and its high rank personal over its lower ranking employees and the people who buy from it.
JojaCola is a drink that is better than Coffee, and slightly cheaper, but if anything appears to have a very mild side-effect. This is the result of JojaMart not caring about the costs of a product so long as they can make money because they are a selfish corporation.
In addition, Joja clearly wants to have their workers be as loyal as possible, while paying them nothing extra for their loyalty, devotion, and extra-time. They use the same IRL methods as some unscrupulous groups and businesses. The promise of a good effect on the world, while having benefits doing their job (even though the benefits are few and/or petty), and the numerous campaigns that result in prizes for the worker (as seen in game, Shane makes a commercial for JojaCola for free in hopes of winning the cash prize), all this happens IRL and people are happy they are paid little and work a lot because they are made to think that in the end everything adds up and is worth it. Sadly, IRL, this is only true 1/4 of the time, meaning lots of times it doesn't add up and it isn't worth it.
Next, Joja does indeed have favoritism from the Government due to Joja being an important economic asset for the Ferngill Republic and neighboring lands. Because of this, Joja has been given special treatment and favoritism at times, and small businesses can't compete easily with that. If anything, it's not as bad as what goes on IRL, when major corporations bribe government officials and even entire government branches for favors, but it's unfair to say the least.
I look at the evils of Joja realistically... but I also know that realistically, Joja has its limits. Joja can out-compete Pierre's only in a select many means. Pierre's can out-compete Joja in only a select rare few. Joja has no way of out-competing Jodi, Gus, and Clint's business's whatsoever, as their businesses have only advantages or equals to Joja Mart and nothing inferior. Joja cannot control all forms of business, and Joja knows this, and focuses on only possessing a monopoly and control in a single economic and business sector as a result.
