Join Failed: Multiplayer with steam friends

    When I try to join a steam friend I get this message "Join Failed! Server does not support connections with protocol version 724." The internet has no idea what "protocol version 724" is and I have no idea what it is. I am not joining a sever, but a client side game. I just installed the game again about half an hour ago.

    Has your friend updated starbound? There was an update a few minutes ago.
    And for clarification: when you join him his/her pc is the server ;)

    I got the same issue connecting to my linux server.

    I updated both server and client.

    HEY sure enough they went "there's an update!?"

    Thanks Iris.

    @MegABiloU
    I've tested with a local server and connecting to localhost und windows. No problems at all. Maybe validating the server files can help. (Unfortunately i don't have a linux machine to test with)

    @Galacius
    Pretty sure. My Starbound says 1.0.3 Maybe restarting Steam will help. Steam sometimes take a bit too much time in recognizing there's an update. Got this error often with other games.

    Im having the same issue, currently investigating how to fix it, what @Iris Blanche, said didn't work for me.

    Im running my server on a dedicated machine with Linux.

    I've contacted @mollygos for this issue since it seems it is something that has to be fixed by the devs.

    Have you heard about portforwarding ?

    Port forwarding is not the issue when the server before the patch worked as intended.

    Same here, the dedicated server I am playing on shows the same message after the update. This was definitely caused by the update.

    I don't think it's port forwarding

    Got the same problem on my dedicated Server.
    No Problems this morning. Updated Client, updated the Server via Steamcmd.
    Server protocol version is still 723.

    P.S. Running on a Win 2012 R2 Server (and yeah we've tried turning it off and on again) :)

    How is that the case, when we already opened the ports before, and it still shows that the server is online but you simply just cant connect.

    Same problem here. Dedicated Linux server got an update as well as the client, but I'am receiving the error mentioned by OP.
