When I boot up the game from Steam, it seems to register that I am playing the game. But whenever the launcher boots up, all I get is a white square without any text or visuals. A moment or two later, I recieve a "Starbound has stopped working" error message and it closes moments later.
I have validated cache on Steam, restarted steam, reinstalled the game (deleting Starbound folder as well, so it' all fresh. No mods.), and nothing works.

I've found similar issues, but not exactly this one.
I am on Windows 7 (EDIT: CHANGED TO 10), all drivers up to date.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    (*UPDATE, A FEW HOURS LATER*)
I did manage to run the game outside of Steam. After running both vc_redist programs and running the starbound.exe hidden in the win32 file, I managed to get a running version of Starbound where I was able to start the intro portion.

I still would like to have a running version on Steam as well as the launcher to work.
If anyone knows how to fix it otherwise, I would love to know.

    (*ANOTHER UPDATE*)
I decided to update my computer to Windows 10, seeing as Windows 7 wouldn't be relevant for much longer and that the W10 upgrade was free for a few more days. So I decided, why not.

The upgrade went smoothly and Windows 10 was installed.
I decided to try to run Starbound without any other fixes, and Starbound had worked perfectly! Steam's version ran perfectly and I played with a friend for a few hours. It seemed that it was just a general W7 issue or something.
Two days later (today, 7/28/16), the exact same issue persists. Same crash upon launcher (even though the launcher no longer exists), same issue, same problem. I hadn't changed any other files or anything between then.
I'm sure it has to do with OpenGL 2.0.
Previously, on the launcher, you could select OpenGL 1.0 or 2.0, and that's likely the reason for the issue.
I'm not sure what to do anymore for a fix, but I'm positive that's the issue. The fact it didn't work, then worked, then didn't work, is very strange, though.
I only hope CF posts a fix soon.

I have this issue aswell, i have deleted my entire starbound folder and deleted all local content from steam and redownloaded it but a white square still pops up like TheMumbles has said with a crash. I have windows 10.

I have this same issue! I found some kind of Crash Report in the Steam > steamapps > common > Starbound > storage file. If anyone can decipher whatever the hell this means, it might help me out: [16:56:58.322] [Info] Root: Preparing Root...

Interesting, but I've no idea what it means.
...And what does "stopped gracefully" mean, anyway?

    I have 6 files in "Steam > steamapps > common > Starbound > [...]"
    Which ones do i use?
They are listed as "starbound" then starbound.log.1 all the way to starbound.log.5 and had to be opened with notepad to read them.
    --- Post updated ---
oh guys i got it working! look at the screenshot for more info but i just went to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Starbound\win32 and clicked "starbound" above the starbound.pdb and below the SDL2.dll

it must be the launcher that is causing the problem if there is one anymore? not sure

The program did a pirouette and struck a pose before dying.

Chances are some file is messing with the launcher, but I can't seem to run the Starbound application in the w64 folder, making me think it's somehow connected to the 64 bit version of starbound.

I couldn't run it either, but I forgot to say anything about it.
I wonder if there's anything to do to fix it with that info.

  9. Bushle_The_Herbamancer

    Bushle_The_Herbamancer Void-Bound Voyager

I have looked into my files and I found out that I cannot launch the 64 bit version and it gives me the same crashing effect.
I can launch it through 32 bit however.
I think that steam launches starbound in the 64 bit version, when only the 32 bit version works. Is there a solution to that?

  10. ZacheryLawshe

    ZacheryLawshe Void-Bound Voyager

I think it has to do with OpenGL 2.0, which frickin sucks because I can't seem to find out where or how to get it if it doesn't already come with starbound.

  11. TheMumbles

    TheMumbles Space Hobo

It DOES come with SB 1.0, but for some reason it just doesn't want to cooperate, from my understanding.
    No idea why.
But it was an option to some extent during the Beta, wether you wanted to use 1.0 or 2.0, if I'm not wrong.
    they done botched it atm

  12. ZacheryLawshe

    ZacheryLawshe Void-Bound Voyager

Yeah they gave you the option to use openGL versions of the 32 bit or 64 bit versions of the Beta. Although whether or not they were OpenGL 1.0 or 2.0 I'm not sure, and if it was 2.0 then at the least I know it ain't my graphics card or driver that's the problem.

  13. TheMumbles

    TheMumbles Space Hobo

I'm pretty sure it has to do with OpenGL 2.0 just NOT wanting to work. Wether that's the 64 bit or something or not, whatever, but if you find anything, please let me/us know & post it elsewhere.

    ZacheryLawshe likes this.
  14. ZacheryLawshe

    ZacheryLawshe Void-Bound Voyager

They seem to have given the option to start up the 32 bit from steam, so there's now a way to have steam functionality when the 64 bit and OpenGL are giving you crud.
