How would that work?

 

Do they have to theoretically work, or just be awesome?

 

I would be tempted to bring forth an almighty gun I created by playing around with Soldat mods and sprites.

It is called: Pizza Time.

This weapon generates delicious pizzas and flings them forward at such a velocity with which to smite your enemies. The greatest feature, however, is the ability to achieve different effects depending on the pizza-settings you use!

~CRUST SELECTION~
THIN - A Thin Crust pizza slices through enemies like a flying buzzsaw, giving you a chance to rip through multiple foes with a single bullet. Rapid-Fire type.
PAN TOSSED - Also called "Normal". A regular bullet-type that hits an enemy with all it's delicious goodness. Normal-Fire type.
STUFFED - A pizza who's stuffed crust allows it to bounce off walls and ceilings up to 3 times to strike enemies with elaborate trick-shots! Normal-Fire type.
DEEP DISH - A crust made to hold more pizza-sauce and ingredients. It's an explosive pizza that detonates over a wide area on impact and scatters the effects! Slow-Fire type.

~TOPPING SELECTION~
Toppings add elemental damage or status effects. Number of hits required to achieve effect depends on crust type. 9 for Thin, 3 for Normal/Stuffed, and 1 for Deep Dish.
EXTRA CHEESE - Can inflict "Immobilization" due to delicious, restricting cheese.
EXTRA SAUCE - A pizza with extra delicious, moist, pizza-sauce! Increases attack power and not much else!
THE THIRD DEGREE - A fresh, hot pizza topped with Bell Peppers, Pepperonis, and sprinkled with dried, jalapeno powder for extra kick. FIRE element and can cause BURNS!
THE ARCTIC SPECIAL - A pizza chilled and topped with Anchovies and Canadian Bacon. ICE element and can cause FREEZING.
THE ISLAND TURF - A pizza topped with King Crab-meat, Calamari, and pineapple with a hint of kiwi-lime. WATER element damage!

And, well, there'd be other topping combinations for any other elements available in the game. Just can't think of 'em right off the top o' my head!

 

Nothing fancy, probably just poptart grenades that explode into a fruity rainbow of nyandoom.

 

I think a whip with actual physics to it would be awesome. It could double Indiana Jones style and allow you to swing from objects above you . Maybe have it be upgradeable so it could be imbued with different elements like fire, ice etc.

The S.U.P.E.R., Superbly Upgraded Platinite Extensor Rifle.
Any enemy hit in the head (besides bosses) with this weapon will have a 1/4 chance of being killed instantly, and while in sniping mode, which makes it so you can only see in a 30 degree cone in front of you, makes it so this 1/4 chance can apply to their whole body.

rubidium bomb, just add rubidium, a coat of water outside and BOOM!

another choice would be a dot grenade, do not be fooled by its size, if it explodes, it will decimate all around you.

For me it would have to be a sword. Something like the runeblades found in WoW. It would have to glow, because let's face it, glowing swords are just epic. Swords are always my weapon of choice, but if I can't have a sword I go sniper rifle. In Borderlands I always went for snipers with insane zoom, but then in a 2D game that wouldn't serve much purpose.
