Here is a thread all about what you're looking for. XNB mods are the easiest, you extract .xnb files, they typically contain a .png (image) and .xaml (text) file. Edit the images as you see fit staying true to the dimensions and repacking. SMAPI/Storm mods require programming experience or programming determination at the least. There are also audio mods but no one really holds a lot of interest there especially considering the simplest of changes requires a 200mb+ file upload when finished.
