Hair Styles Referring to Anime?

So I was checking out the hairstyles in the Character Creation on the website here, and I noticed a few hairstyles being familiar. Not just being familiar, but really look-alike hair styles that could be from some anime characters.

I found one of the hairstyles in the Character Creation look a lot like Reimu's hairstyle from the TouHou series.

So, has anybody else found that the hairstyles look a bit like other characters too?
Is Chucklefish doing references? Or is it just coincedence?

Large bows in hair predate Anime by quite a fair margin, many Mangaka (and the artists of original Anime series/OVA's) were originally inspired by actual fashion or by previous (Western) animations. The inspiration for the human hairstyles in Starbound are likely derived from quite a number of sources; many are ones you can see IRL without too much difficulty.

 

Purely coincidental.

 

I mean the human hairstyle in my avatar kind looks like Fry's from Futurama, someone also told me he looks like Apollo Justice. I guess it depends, but it's probably just anime de ja vu hehehe.

 

Find me a hairstyle from any source and I'll find you an anime that's got it. Anime has the widest range of hairstyles, ranging from pretty normal (Light Yagami from Death Note) to unrealistic (Envy from Fullmetal Alchemist) to completely ridiculous (Super Saiyans from Dragonball Z). So yeah, I'm not surprised you can see some similarities to some anime.

I approve of this idea.

 

While I generally doubt that a 'bow in the hair' hairstyle is meant to be a reference to anything, Chucklefish does obviously do references especially considering they have one in their roadmap and I'm sure there are plenty more.

 

Maybe but probably more likely a subtle video game reference.

 

I'll admit I tipped my non-existent hat when I saw the Touhou cameo with the hairstyles.
