I like the game, don't get me wrong, but this is an issue that ought to have been dealt with before the official release. If many players are unable to play the game due to FPS issues caused by a multitude of reasons or an unknown reason(s), each of which may well be different for the individual user, and the developers do not know what is causing this (i.e. they don't know what is wrong with their game and how to advise users to correct this bug except on an individual basis), then the game was not ready to be released.

An obvious look out point would be to think about what was changed from beta to 1.0. From the top of my head the main thing that was removed was openGL 1.0 and directx client, then was replaced with openGL 2.0. I could be wrong but from what I've read this seems to be what could of triggered the effects. Since before 1.0 we had an option to trial and error with clients which we don't have that ability anymore. I wouldn't think it would be anything asset related since i think more was removed then added.

I don't care. I payed, so go fix your game. The lag problem was in the alpha und beta versions too and you guys did almost NOTHING.

Bad developers, bad coding, bad publisher.

Never going to buy a game from your company again.

Now go hate me, see if i care.

Now i understand people that pirate games, at least they didn't throw out money!

I wasn't being rude. I was just re-stating. Its a difficult task to find out, because everyone's computers are all different. Some are not caused by this and some unfortunately are. There's a lot of ground to cover too, as literally the small details can be a cause, so they're going to have to be observed.

@Iris Blanche has already alerted Molly about the issue, and this post in particular.

So many people sent in all needed information, back then and until today. Nothing really big happend. It's like chucklefish is trying to sit it out like "Let's wait until nobody talks about this issue anymore, hue hue hue!"

Have you ever programmed before, my friend?
As an amateur programmer i know it's hard enough to debug just my own problems: the ones i can reproduce over and over, with debug information being displayed in real-time and watching every line of code be executed.
But someone else's problem, one that i can't reproduce and have comparatively very little information on? It's nearly impossible to find the cause, let alone fix it. And then people want results within days.

The problem has been reported and we've been told they're aware of it. There is nothing we can do but give any more info they need and be patient.
Wait for the next update and see if they manage to fix/improve it. If there is no change in the next update, then it might be worth bringing up again.

Geez this went out of hand quickly. I just updated my drivers and etc and the lag is still present

Sure there are problems and many are here to rant (Like my earlier posts) but you don't just scream and yell at the mods and devs for something like this. I mostly went quiet after hearing they was working on it, as one usually should. Although instead of yelling at them, you could just offer your specs and log files with info as it happens so they can form a list of lag offenses and figure out how to counter them.

I'm still having the lag problem even after updating my drivers today.

Take this not just in a programmers view but a leader's view as well. They do have the power to not listen to you. Although there is a difference in ranting and attacking x.x..... geez I have been trying to code a dungeon for the last 3 days with game crashes to find out that it was a modded music being the problem. Go a tad easier on them.

Ahem alright well I updated my drivers and also have an unpacked version of the game in a packed folder inside the game's assets folder. It takes longer to load but has eased a bit of lag for me.

The lag is still shutter in high LUA demanding areas being evident in the several millions of bites the LUA memory usage is shown in debug mode. Weather, monsters (Probably the unique deaths and life bar animations), npcs, and even lasers seem to cause a great deal of lag. I know the most of these have some connection to LUA files within the coding so maybe the management of LUA files could be most of the problems.

Just did a run of the lunar base finally. Ignore the object errors in that as that modded item isn't finished. Maybe the log might help... I'm not entirely sure since when I read the log.. It doesn't show much conflicting except the open gl errors every now and then and the game determining what to do with the unpacked game files in a packed folder, which it sorts out.

They have my information and my logfile, so what you wanna say now, smart boy!

We have the power to pirate their games from now.

    Hanlon's Razor applies here.

Not calling Chucklefish stupid, but perhaps more ignorant to what the cause is. If they can't replicate the problem on their end, then they have little hope of resolving it. Assuming they are ignoring it on purpose is short sighted, and honestly, rather sad.

I say that if you keep acting and talking like this, the moderators will ban you and rightly so. Inflammatory trolls are not welcome on these discussion boards.

Since you're not willing to behave in a normal manor inside this topic i'm going to thread-ban you so you won't be able to post again in this topic. I can understand that it is annoying to have such issues with the game but you're definitly crossing the line with your accusations and talking about pirating is also an absolutely no-no and can also have legal consequences if you do it. There are people that suffer from the same issue you do and some experience this even worse but they act civil.

If you have any questions about this decision feel free to PM me.

    Regards
    Iris Blanche

Hello there! First, I would like to apologize if this is a little confusing to read, because English is not my first language.
Starbound has been running slow on my laptop after a thing happened during my playtrough.
Basically, I had a few too many things open on my computer, was at a jungle planet, and doing an escorting quest. Then it started raining and my game got super slow.
Now every time there's one too many things on the screen the game gets very slow, almost unplayable. Even in places where it didn't before, like the Outpost.
I tried closing the game, restarting my computer, uninstalling and installing it again, and none of these worked.
Here are my laptop settings, in case it helps.
    Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4200M CPU @2,50GHz
    RAM: 8 GB
    Windows 7 64 bits
    Graphics card: GeForce GTX 850M

It was playing fine until that happened, by the way. Some spikes here and there but nothing major.

PROBLEM SOLVED!!!! For me at least....

I had to disable VSYNC in the starbound config file located at:

    C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\Starbound\storage

    Open the starbound.config file there

    ctrl+f: search for sync

Change the TRUE after vsync to FALSE

    ctrl+s: save it

This worked for me maybe it will help you. I saw this fix before but never expected it to work, give it a try!

This worked for me as well. I have always dug sideways under the ocean floor rather than swim (its faster!) but performance made this impossible lately. Disabling VSYNC makes it super smooth again.

Vsync has nothing to do with it. Bumping it up again, I'm still on my theory of NPC's causing some kind of massive leakage. Nothing has changed so far, given the lack of response, I'll raise awareness to this issue again.

the V-SYNC allows you to get a few more FPS in the game, but the strangest thing is that the other day I found a biome underground Slime and I went to 8-10 fps , usually in the planets'm on 25-30 fps.
