Easter eggs or leftovers from previous versions?

There are a couple of things that look like they should be interactive and as far as I've been able to figure out they aren't. They're like small boxes on the ground. One is in the storage room of the saloon somewhat hidden by barrels. the other is in the little fenced area behind and barely east of the Joja mart. What are they?

You can get some neat little goodies out of them when you give them an offering. Same with the toy box in Vincent's room.

 

I tried to put a super cucumber in the brown box and it won't let me. It either shakes the bush or asks me if I want to eat the super cucumber
