Bug/Issue Duplicate Crew?

    Hi all,
I had the "crew cloned" issue yesterday.
It happened after using my 2nd character in a friend's game, then when using my 1st character again all crew members aboard the ship were cloned (I didn't restart the game in-between, maybe there's a cause to the issue there somewhere ?)
I thought it would solve itself by leaving the ship but when I beamed down, the whole crew got cloned again down on the planet !

It didn't happen again after that, but now I can't use my spaceship for long because of framerate drops (~5 to 10 FPS).
I tried dismissing crew members but it removed only the originals, the clones are still inside. Also, the 2 crew members always following me have been cloned twice (2 of them inside the ship and 1 follwing me).
I must add that I put Deeds inside my ship and those NPCs weren't cloned. I had to remove the Deeds&NPCs to try improving the framerate but it didn't help.
    View attachment 160525

Useful info : I'm on Windows 10, using Steam multiplayer (no dedicated server). I use no NPC mod, only UI mods (Container UI Tweak, Improved Containers).
    - In the Crew I had 2 Tailors, 1 Janitor, 1 Chemist, 2 Engineers, 2 Mechanic, 1 Medic, 1 Soldier
    - When the bug happened we haven't started the Hunt yet (Floran quest).

I partially solved the issue by dismissing all crew members then killing the clones with lava...
After that the game kept telling me I couldn't add new crew members because the crew was full, but after restarting the game I could add new crew members again.
Still, the framerate aboard the ship remained low (~15 to 20 FPS), even with only 3 crew members, 1 NPC merchant, and after removing all decorative non-essential objects from the ship...
(I have no FPS issues on any new planet)

I still haven't been able to reproduce this bug. Please provide a copy of your log files from a session where the duplication occurs, and/or more detailed steps describing how to reproduce the problem.

Happened to me today when doing the Weaponry Testing Site quest. Upon teleporting, my whole crew appeared and when I went back on the ship they were all duplicated except the ones following me. I play solo on a heavily modded setup. I have got the log for the session

Started happening to me yesterday, running Mac OSX 10.9.5, single player when I beamed up from the planet w/o crew. I was able to get rid of the clones by beaming down with one set + another, and then beam back up. Order does matter, if you dismiss the crew member that still has a clone you will get a comment from SAIL that you have too many crew. At that point you will have to use the dismissal method to remove the extra crew.

Had the duplication happen again today, this time when I beamed down to the planet w/o crew. Tried using the beam down method with cloned crew and this time I ended up triplicating the crew. Time to try the dismissal method - and I was just at the point where I only need a few more ship upgrade modules to get to the next ship level.

The forum will not let me upload the file, it is too large at 3.6MB. Something is clearly going on, the previous log is 34.6MB, other logs show wide variation in size from 192KB up to 30.4MB.

Log files can be accessed here: https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B5Gewu-3qhdAOW04eUg0OFExVWc&usp=sharing

Edit: After dealing with duplicates and triplicates here is my recommendation for getting rid of clones:
    1. Back up your Starbound/storage directory.
    2. Do not use the beam down/up method, or stop using it, if that method causes your clones to multiply. Personally I am not going to use that method if I get another duplication, too painful to get rid of the clones and more time consuming then the following steps.
    3. Dismiss all crew members. If you have duplicates this will clear out your crew but you will still have at least one of each crew left on board your ship.
    4. Rehire all crew. Repeat steps 3 and 4 as necessary. With triplicates I had to cycle through steps 3 and 4 twice.

Good luck. This is definitely a painful bug.

It happened to me just now. I started up the game to add a little thing to an airlock I'd built, but when I arrived at the building it was crammed full of copies of my crew, and a second set of copies were aboard my ship with the originals.

I removed the copies by telling them to follow me, two of each crew at a time (both mechanics, both soldiers, etc) and teleporting from one place to another. That seems to have made the clones vanish. Of course that leaves me with a tailor in my colony and two tailors (original and a second clone) on my ship that I can't get rid of. I also got a message while at the colony from SAIL that I'd reached my maximum number of crewmembers, but that was before I used the teleport trick to get the clones to vanish. Does anyone know if I will be able to get more crew now?

If the developers cannot find a way to duplicate this bug or find its cause, might I ask at least for a console command or something that allows us to simply remove a character from the game? So I can just delete those two extra tailors?

I had this bug happen for the first time to me today. I have Win 7, 64-bit.

Mods in effect: (All installed from Steam Workshop)
    - Container UI Tweak
    - Weapon Stats
    - Quiet Sewing Machine
    - Perennial Crops
    - Improved Containers
    - Choggo's Songpack
    - Efficient Watering
    - EPP Light
    - Fresh Fruit
    - Instant Crafting

I had only ONE crew member duplicate himself on the ship. Following the advice above, I summoned both the crewman and his dupe and beamed down to an asteroid, whereupon the dupe disappeared, and did not reappear on the ship.

I am postulating that the reason I got only 1 crewman duplicated is because I currently have 11 crewmen, and maybe the 1 slot available was all that could be copied? Just a thought.

Even though I have been hearing about this bug for several days, this is the first time it happened to me. I have not changed mods during this time, nor have done anything out of the ordinary. Today, I visited only my farm planet, the space station, and a few asteroid type planets. The duplication happened at some point today, not sure when, though.

Just had this bug happen to me. I had been doing some stuff on my ship for at least an hour (was decking it out and making it look good). Realized I needed more wood, so I decided to beam down to orbited planet to nab some. Upon doing so, the game experienced MAJOR lag and then suddenly BAM my ENTIRE crew was on the planet surface with me despite me not telling any of them to follow me. Thoroughly weirded out, I beamed back up and quit/save. When I came back into the game I had duplicates. Every crew member had a twin.

I'm running windows 7 with no mods.

After redoing a mission, going to other planets, visiting the outpost... no difference. I still have a duplicate crew on my ship. HOWEVER, I did notice that if I return to the planet where they first all followed me, they are still on that planet for some reason. I don't know why.

It seem that now that the bug has happened, the crew staying on the ship is cloned each time I teleport (except beaming down on planet) without a full team. It seems to cause fps drop on ship the more clones you have and prevents aquiring new true crew members to unlock upgrades.
Fortunately there are two ways to get rid of duplicates (you should do this, or you'll get double more clones next time)
-ask both of the same crew member to follow you and beam down
-disimiss them and kill the remaining non interactable clone with lava (for tailors)

the only 1 time where my crew duplicate it was when i've remove my shipworld for use a backup file.

Crew list seem bound to player when crew members are stock in the ship , for fix it i've ask of both copy to follow me (+ 1 another guy why not since the first double isnt count even if following) , when beamed down only 1 copy is here , and when beam up the copy is gone , no need to dismiss for me.

I sure diddly darn hope this bug gets fixed in the next update. Having two tailors around on the ship rather kills my mood.

Some people have suggested using lava to kill the extra one. I have two questions:

    1. How do I know which one is the original? Is it the one following me around?
    2. Don't the crew members respawn once killed?

Yeah, I tried killing my tailor only to have him respawn. There doesn't seem to be a real fix for this yet. Nada.

Had this same issue had to dismiss all of my crew and then I ended up talking to the dopples to make them show up again under my crew list and then re-dismissed them.

This doesn't work for the tailor. If you dismiss one, you can't talk to the other one. And I'd prefer not to kill my crew members or get rid of them entirely. I hired them because I like them!

I encountered this bug also, having the crew duplicated 3 times. Running on Windows 7 64-bit, both client and dedicated server on the same machine.

I had them blocked in a room by a horizontal door/hatch, but don't know if this is related to the bug.

Recruiting copies of the same crew member and teleporting down/up seemed to resolve it.

Log files for the game and server attached.

I have encountered this as well. My ship is now nigh-unusable due to how crowded it's getting (admittedly I probably should do a little re-organizing of my storage and crafting stations, but still...).

Is there any way to resolve this? I don't really want to flood my ship with lava, but I might try it soon just because it's getting so far out of hand and at this point I think it'd be worth it to start from scratch, building a new crew :x

Alternatively, is there any way to edit my save file to change who's on my ship?

Works for getting rid of the duplicate tailor, if you're really concerned about getting another one, just run a bunch of a quests in the town of the race you want; the point is yes you can't talk to the tailor, so to get rid of the duplicates you kill them with lava.

I literally have whole villages filled with chemists, tailors, mechanics, etc etc of all types. So many that they fill up the screen offering to join my crew. It's really not very complex to recruit crew members. If you want to RP that they are special, fine, mostly my posts are how to resolve the issues, not RP.

yeah, I have emotional attachment to them. I don't really know what to say except that I just don't view the as expendable. I'm hoping staff will eventually address this with a real solution that doesn't involve manually killing off crew to get them to go away like that. :(

Hello, here is my Starbound log where I currently have a duped tailor. I do not know what caused the crew to duplicate other than teleporting to a planet (not much to go on). This is on Windows 8.1 and there were more duped crew members, but I was able to dismiss them. Talking to the duplicate crew member, as mentioned previously, then talking to SAIL makes them revert to the actual crew member after the dismissal. This does not work on the tailor. The instance of having the crew duplicate only happened once.
