Bug/Issue De-bug mode?

Hiya. Game crashed. Usually, the screen will go black and the music will distort and loop -- I need to shut down the laptop by long-pressing the power button to get out. Unless it's a recurring, insurmountable issue, I don't bother with reporting. This time, however, it just quit. No fanfare, no need to restart the PC. I wasn't even looking at it; was looking at the wiki on my phone, haha. I restarted from Steam, suddenly had a command prompt/window in the lower left for about five seconds. And every torch has a floating inverted triangle indicator above it -- like they've all been 'selected' simultaneously, or something. Is there a de-bug mode that was inadvertently triggered? It's entirely possible my cat hit just the right key combination, ha. How do I get out of it, please? I don't want to key-mash, and just hope for the correct sequence.
