Alright, but it doesn't excuse saying things that you knew were targeted to cause hurt.

Recognizing that you're drunk gives you the power, the capability, to call for a taxi. It does not excuse driving off in your car "because your judgement was impaired so you couldn't have known better."
Recognizing that you're tired or hurting gives you the power and capability to think more before you say things. It does not excuse saying whatever you please because you were upset.

That is what nearly all the problems I've seen on this thread have boiled down to. People get upset and then won't control themselves. It's not a matter of can't. Everyone can. Shadow, you can. Will you?

With all due respect, Mourne, I think that is an idealization of behavior; some people can control themselves, and good for them. But for other people it's much more difficult. For some people it's general anxiety, and for others it's just one specific thing that will make their mind unwind at the seams and sink them into temporary madness.
