A singular "Fabric Ore?" No, there would have to be a "Cotton Ore," a "Wool Ore," a "Silk Ore," a "Nylon Ore," a "Kashmir Ore," and maybe even a "Leather Ore," if you can count that as a fabric.
Synthetics could be made of crude oil and other things found underground. Silk could be used as well, perhaps farmed and dropped by mobs.
I agree that you should use animal hides. Various hides would be more beneficial like maybe scales from dragon like cheaters late Tier and sheep early.
You could try using plants. you only need a few different types of cloth so you could make the plants that produce them very common. You could also add in certain monsters that are similar to silk worms. I kinda like the idea of having to fight giant worms to make clothes. By the way those are really pretty flowers!
Non hostile mobs should drop furs when killed, higher leveled world = higher quality furs. I'm sure everything in the game isn't trying to kill you? Fauna is sufficient and make sense as a source of furs.
Plant fiber, just assign it to any tropical looking plant parts. Wool fiber, make a fluffy/wooly part for monsters and have them drop "wool" - space sheep! Silk fiber, can do all kinds of crazy space spider type silks too Metal fiber, at high tiers maybe you can spin metal into thin strands and have metallic clothing
I hope you know I really need sleep and fabric ore was what came to mind. Besides, my other suggestions about fabric could get Starbound sued by Terraria.
id say if you acquire stems when you pick the flowers mayhaps you could spin the fibers from those into a fabric.. feed it to a robot spider or something idk. but either way it sounds like things are really coming along, keep it up.
Being able to make synthetic fibers from plants you randomly picked up? Maybe even having cotton plants as tier one and they get morr advanced as you go? It'd be cool to see some nanofibers through science.
It has already been confirmed that Beta will not be distributed to buyers before end of August. Expect the beta in September at best.
Clothing materials/fabrics could come from animals or monsters, things you find underground, or simply a specific plant. The pelts of the animals would help to create clothes in need of fur or leather (or a feather ) , the plants could help with cotton-based clothes and such, gems could help with certain buttons or well... gems the piece of clothing might need, etc! Maybe some could come from chests and lairs only? I'm liking the treasure and dyes as well! Keep it up Chucklefish!!
Clothing material should be found in various places; ex. sheep for wool, cobwebs for silk, and linen from certain plants.
