These planets are a spectacular sight from an outer perspective, since these beauties are completely covered with purple, violet and light red crystals that tower several meters into the air. You can imagine it to be a little bit like this: These planets have an uncommon way of cycling through day and night time. All the light that exists on this planet is entirely produced by the crystals itself, as they contain massive amounts of pure energy. After a certrain time, a crystal loses all this stored power and has to recharge, for this while he loses his mystical glow. Destroying a crystal while he still has some of his energy left, results in a dangerous explosion, shooting shards through the air. The animals on this planet are adapted to their sharp and sleek environment. Some of them could be able to tap the crystals and convert their energy for their personal use. Others are completely engulfed in crystals themselves, like snails with shells that are enclosed with the massive material. Others use the reflections caused by the surface of the minerals to trick their victims and hunt them down. Also, there could be something like fireflies, that glow in a similar light then the surrounding landscape, since they have a crystalline thorax. Water on such planets would be harmful, since it would conist of 100% quicksilver, but some lifeforms adapted even to this circumstance. The crystals could also be harvested to use them as a crafting material, especially to power certain machinery. Anymore ideas?
How about Lazer weapons and mining tools act in a strange way? Charging the crystal (maybe overload it with energy and cause a premature explosion) to boucing off it or pass through it, changing directions of the beam and even increasing it's power/beam size
Yo, that sounds amazing and the picture (who drew it btw?) also looks beautiful. Also, I think Unobtanium would be very cool here because certain parts of the crystal masses could be floating!
Sorry, wanted to give credit but totally forgot it. I got it here: http://browse.deviantart.com/?q=crystal cave&order=9&offset=48#/d2lqgl9 Yepp, there are many possibilities. Maybe even different colours of the crystals depending on certain areas? Like red for more aggressive animals and green for toxic ones and so on.
They'd be awfully sharp, wouldn't they... You might have to either clear them out before moving around, or simply find a way to traverse them without ripping apart your feet...
Would be a good opportunity to implement special clothing into the game that makes walking on these planets possible. Or you would have to bombard the planet from outer space to free a strip of walkable area.
Or just a high def boots/leggins could rend you immune to the sharp field, assigning a certain armor for that would be a hell of a pain in my views. Perhaps do a Armor Mod item that can be socked on gear and it makes them resistent to the crystals
That's what I intended. =) Not a special armor for such planets, that would be a little bit too crazy.
lasers which split when they hit crystals would make laser weapons 20% cooler and very powerful on crystal planets. I like the idea of a crystal planet!
Crystal fields could be also be a common underground biome, being crystals mainly used in laser weapons and other crazy stuff like powerfing machines and vehicles, making special ammo and the likes. Crystal caves are pretty damn awesome, it would be a nice addition to the game Ops silly forum wont resize these pics
