Mistaking games? I don't think it would have been difficult for the precursors (AKA Ancients), who have been shown to be able to use pocket dimensions (Just look at the Challenge Doors, or the Ancient Vaults), to manage to make floating structures, considering that the usage of vacuum balloons (Which would be able to do just that, and which is clearly FAR less technologically advanced than most of their shown tech) is something that is being studied IRL as a means of exploring the atmosphere of gas giants.
Couldn't the same have been argued about Asteroids? They clearly would logically be just a bunch of space rocks and debris, so there shouldn't be much to explore. Now look at what is in them as of 1.3: New monsters, various structures...
Not to mention that it's siddicult to see the point of even HAVING Gas Giants in the game if they do nothing.

I was thinking they would walk on rocks compressed in the core.

The core is usually comprised of Molten metal. You would get to walk on that as likely as it is to walk on planet cores in this game. AS in not at all

They would get ripped to pieces by the insanely strong storms and winds inside the gas giant. Not a chance.

What if the ships were designed to withstand the winds because Gas Giants could then be used as strategic positions in space battles?

that could be a special Upgrade! an end game quest to get an Upgrade to Your ship to be able to search the gas planets for: Remains of the Destroyer/ Cultists / jelly boss / Secret ancient stations / other Things?

I think you don't understand how devastating Gas planet winds are.

"Winds in Saturn's upper atmosphere can reach speeds of 1,800 kilometers (1,118 miles) per hour near its equator. In contrast, the strongest hurricane-force winds on Earth top out at about 396 kilometers (246 miles) per hour."

"Uranus and Neptune, are dominated by winds that can reach supersonic speeds and jet streams 10 to 15 times stronger than those found on Earth,"

"Jupiter and Saturn consist mostly of hydrogen and helium, with heavier elements making up between 3 and 13 percent of the mass.[1] They are thought to consist of an outer layer of molecular hydrogen surrounding a layer of liquid metallic hydrogen, with probably a molten rocky core. The outermost portion of their hydrogen atmosphere is characterized by many layers of visible clouds that are mostly composed of water and ammonia. The layer of metallic hydrogen makes up the bulk of each planet, and is referred to as "metallic" because the very large pressure turns hydrogen into an electrical conductor. The gas giants' cores are thought to consist of heavier elements at such high temperatures (20,000 K)"

So to put it quite bluntly, they're not places to visit in person. Sending mining probes or building a mining facility in orbit is a different matter entirely.

Looks like you didn't bother to read HOW the suggestions about visiting Gas Giants do it? None suggest outright landing on foot. They either (Like the one that started this conversation) suggested to use Mechs, I suggested to use specialized aircraft; and the one you're responding to suggests to directly use the ship to do it.

who said anything in person? we can use drones, mechs, maybe satelites. but it would be cool to fly around With jetpack, fighting flying gas monsters. but as i suggested before, we can get armor or special suits/Tools to explore gas planets AFTER killing the ruin. gas planets can be end-game locations, for special quests or enemies or maybe hunting Down parts of the ruin. as the Picture after defeating the ruins shows, the Ruin planet explodes, and pieces flies everywhere, but where does those pieces goes? into the players universe maybe?

If those pieces land inside Gas giants they would get OBLITERATED. What part of nothing can exist there outside of gas don't you understand? The ruin is ORGANIC which makes it a lot more fragile and given the hostile environment of a gas giant, they wouldn't last.

Your suggestion of a special jetpack means going in there in person. Which again is NOT feasible.

You can already visit planets with lots of lava, horribly high temperatures, what likely is an atmosphere that shouldn't even be breathable, and that tends to have meteorites fall on it. Not only that, but people want to live in them to the point of paying more than other places to live there. I'd say that being realistic in terms of visiting planets is not part of the game.
In fact, they COULD have solid natural blocks: Cloud blocks and other blocks that could be some sort of light-weight solid or liquid could work (In fact, FU does this with Gas Balls).

The thing is, though, you need an environmental protection pack in order to visit those kinds of planets without suffocating, burning alive, etc. As for the whole meteorite thing, meteorites fall on Earth, and we seem plenty fine.

First of all, clouds are not solid. A cloud by definition is simply a large mass of condensed vapors. If it were solid, the cloud would be too heavy to float.

Second point. You're very unlikely to find liquids in the atmosphere, unless they're vapors. This is because of physics. The higher you go, the lower the pressure gets, which, in turn, reduces the boiling point of a liquid.

Third point. If you're going to have "light-weight solids", they'll probably have to be man-made. While finding something like Cloud City would be cool, it's just not possible to have natural solid formations on a gas giant.

Although we do have cloud blocks in the game for some reason. They're not normally accessible though; you can only get them by spawning them in as an admin.

Cloud blocks already exist, and it's not like the game has to be realistic. It has to be fun.
And, as of the EPP, then why couldn't another tier of EPP be used for Gas Giants?

    DinoExplorer2000 Scruffy Nerf-Herder

Exactly! and that epp could probaly give a small extra boost, jetpack or higher jump

if you want it that badly why not mod it into the game?

add a poll or something named "UNOFFICIAL: Would you like this to be in the game?" with answers being "Yes" and "No"
put it on strawpoll and have a link to it in both of your signatures maybe?

then you get an average amount of opinions that arent biased... also maybe pm eachother or talk on your walls or things k
