You're kinda wrong. Just like in Terraria, to progress through Starbound you have to find resources. The difference between the 2 games is that in Starbound, you can find resources in a lot of different ways, which of course, includes mining. So you could say that Starbound is based around mining too. It won't say "A wild pile of gold have appeared".

So let me get this streight. You are wondering what you can do besides...
    -Customise your own spaceship
-Build any base you want with the seemingly infinite textures.
-Never find the same gun twice.
    -Find unqie enemy's constantly
-Explore almost infinite worlds with it's own unqie biome, creatures, minerals, gravity, etc
-Catolge all your findings from all the worlds you have been to.
    -Have your own farm simulation
    -Spaceship battles post release.
-and do all this with your friends ?

I alone could spend months of game play on just one of these things.

Is Starbound a "sandbox?" I mean, there IS a Storyline and Story-related quests. Doesn't "sandbox" imply a lack of a Story?

Sandbox implies non-linearity, a do what you want style game. The story will basically just be a questline you're on from the start(like skyrim) that you hopefully won't have to follow(like skyrim)

Starbound is an innovation: a story within a sandbox.

  7. Drakojin

Not really, that's been done many a time before Starbound.

Maybe, but not at the level of complexity that Starbound has.

I'm gonna explore, collect info on enemies, build, kill stuff, explore, touch myself, explore, fly a spa ce ship, touch myself some more, climax, find some more stuff, hunt down more enemies and find more info on them, take a nap, and do it over again.

    Everything!!!!
You can destroy worlds by shooting asteroids at them!
You can genetically enhance kittens to make them breathe fire!
You can build a moon out of cheese!
You can build temples, skyscrapers, research labs, doomsday weapons and casino's!
    You can catch 'em all!
You can collect the rarest material in the universe and make a pair of underpants from it!
    You can kill Aliens!
You can eat a black hole!
    EVERYTHING!!!!

Play billiards with asteroids. I'd love to see the kinds of bank shots you can get with those.

The only thing you will actually be doing is moving a set of colored pixels around a screen whilst sitting in front of your computer's monitor.
    Same as every game.

I actually asked Tiy on the IRC thing, and he said mining is gonna be really important Also, you could have a few games: one where you explore as much as you can, one where you rush the storyline, etc.

That's a good question. Has there been any info regarding that yet?

  16. Sadron

You need to put spaces after punctuation, like this.

Anyway yes, as everyone had said part of it is just the collecting of building material and building your own structures as well as exploring the whole damn universe.

Word on the street is that StarBound WILL have a sort-of overarching storyline/plot to follow, so while it's still essentially a Sandbox, it will definitely have a goal to work towards.

    I won't,sorry.
