Say if some website copied your mod files when it clearly said DO NOT DISTRIBUTE, Basically rewriting my mod page and hosting it on their website: 1) Would that be a violation of the do not distribute rule? 2) Who could I contact to help sort it out? http://starboundgo.ru/download/mods/321-lazarus-dungeons.html ^^^Uhm you might wanna use Google Translate or something.
You would just have to contact the owner of the site. po3kita@gmail.com Though I suggest playing nice and ask - not to host your file on their servers. Instead have the download link point to Mod page which you give them.
Due to this thread i added this text at the top of my mod page: You're not allowed to upload this mod or its assets somewhere else - it's a CF ModDB exclusive mod! For further Information check the permissions section at the bottom of this page. It's more than sad if people ignore the mod authors wishes. It freaking frustrating and is a direct insult at the mod author and his work. Just because its free it doesn't mean you can do whatever you want with it. I've been a victim of stolen mod assets before, so i'm very precise about pointing out what people should do and what not. If you like it, make fanart of it - just don't take the original files and / or claim they're yours.
Just to point out a little irony. ModDB is an actual site ( famous one at that ) - for hosting well mods. An would result in a reasonable confusion in that particular statement. http://www.moddb.com/
RU... russian site. No offense, but 'Good luck' getting THAT taken down. Copyright infringement is a day to day thing over there, and copyright is also generally a US law/protection... Russia I don't think would do much to help you out.
This thread is relevant to my interests, bumping. If anyone has any stories, experiences or has had the same problem as OP, please share some info.
The mod of the post said this: It's not that much of a big deal here anyway, but it helps to be aware when it is just ignorant/malicious.
