Not sure how to word this exactly, but what I mean is when you are not using your weapon, it goes into an "idle state". For example, say you have a katana, and after 10 sec of you not using it, your character sheaths it at his/her waist. The same thing could apply for placing a gun in it's holster, shield on your back, or lowering your spear. It's just something I thought would look nice instead of walking around waving my katana menacingly at all the NPCs' faces while walking around trying not to seem threatening.

This actually is a simple but really good idea. Might even already be implemented. If it's not, then it would require some animations/poses to be made, but would add a lot of verisimilitude. I know from experience that it's hard to hold a firearm in a ready-to-fire position for long periods of time without resting or bracing it against something. It's also the reason why sheathes, hangars, tachi, and baldrics exist for melee weapons. I can support this.
I'm not sure how much work it would be to add, but it would definitely look pretty cool. A manual "sheathe/holster weapon" button could be added too. =D
If this has not been done already then it should be done. It would make the game feel better while playing it.
so, basically a set of idle animations/sprites/whatever for most weapons? Time consuming, but it would be a nice touch...
Yeah, this is a nice idea, but I would place this low on the priority list if they do decide to implement it. I mean, it's just aesthetics, but I'm a sucker for this type of stuff.
