I am a Hylotl and this thread offends me.
But seriously though, the main reason people refer to Hylotl as fish people is that they look similar enough and "fish people" is easier on the tongue than "amphibian people".

 

No, not that, I mean saying the word frog people is not hard . I am not refering to the hylotls...

 

Why don't we just call them tadpoles? Half frog, half fish.

Ha! I wondered about that myself. Good to hear it from someone schooled in the science. I majored in Bio, avoided physics like that plague. Bad high school teacher ruined it for me.

 

I thought, way back before beta, it was mentioned somewhere that despite all the very common similarities, the Hylotl actually were not based on the axlotl? Maybe I'm remembering wrong.

Edit: That being said I have issue with the statement "they are definitely NOT fish people".

Being a humanoid doesn't make the difference. It's their natural properties. Lacking gills and scales, being able to naturally breathe in both air and water, and forming from a tadpole (even though that's not what Axolotls do), Hylotls are surely amphibians.
