Got questions about the game or community? You will probably find your answers here! This is a general overview of the most common questions we’re asked. If you still have questions, there is a list of helpful links at the end of the FAQ and a handy forum search bar. If you still can't find the answers you're looking for, make a thread or PM a staff member with your questions/concerns and we’ll be happy to help!

A: Updates aren't announced until we know for sure they’ll be ready. This means that news of a release date for any given update/patch will likely come up when it's ready to download. We post about patch releases on our blog.

A: There's no UI for it yet, but you can delete your characters by going to your Starbound directory’s player folder (Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Starbound\player on Windows) and delete the appropriate player files. Don’t worry, Starbound will have a simple button to allow for the deletion of your characters eventually.

A: The best way to keep up to date is to watch our blog. You can also keep an eye out for developer posts within the forums, the Starbound subreddit, and Twitter feed.

A: Starbound has a Wiki! If you have a specific question, though, you are more than welcome to ask it here on the forums. There are also several guides throughout the forum on starting out in Starbound.

A: Yes! We’ve developed Starbound with modders in mind. You can download mods here and discuss them here. We can’t account for any bugs or crashes that occur in modded versions of Starbound, though.

A: Help us smash it! We're doing our best to make sure nasty bugs don’t make it into Starbound, but beta is beta and it’s bound to happen from time to time. Post in our Game Help & Support board or e-mail us about the bug and provide any necessary details-- your system specs, screenshots of the bug, crash logs, etc.

A: BETA is divided into 3 stages; Progenitor, Automaton, and Bio-Organic. We shift into a new stage after a certain level of Starbound's completion. Eventually (after Bio-Organic) the game will shift into it's final stage, which is Starbound's official release.

Here's a break down of the goals and purposes of each Stage.

    Progenitor
    • Identify and implement systems and mechanics that require inclusion to enhance game-play

    • Identify and fix outstanding and game-breaking bugs

    • Test content against the expectations of the players
    Automaton
    • Optimize systems and mechanics

    • Identify and fix rare and small-time bugs

    • Test content against the expectations of the players
    Bio-Organic
    • Complete final iterations of systems and mechanics

    • Seek out and eliminate any lingering bugs

    • Complete testing content against the expectations of the players

A: Visit our Suggestions board if you have an idea you’d like to see implemented. If you're more concerned with the optimization, balance, well-being or philosophy of something in particular, we would love to hear from you on our General Discussion board.

A: No, pre-order backer rewards will be implemented at a later stage of beta.

Never fear, the Setting Up Multiplayer Guide is here!

This is a general overview of the most common questions we get about the forum. If you still have questions, there is a list of helpful links at the end of the FAQ. If you still can't find the answers you're looking for -- make a thread and the staff or community will get to it.

A: You can find a link to the forum & IRC rules in the forum sidebar. Here’s a link for the lazy!

A: Badges are awarded by staff for particular feats of awesome. To earn a badge, you must be nominated by staff or a fellow community member. After you are nominated, your actions will be reviewed for the badge in question -- and if you fit the bill, you get a badge! You can take a look at the various badges we award and how to earn them in our Forum Badge Nomination thread.

A: Go to the staff immediately! Our number one concern is to ensure the community is a safe space. If you're being put into a private and scary situation, message one of the online staff right away (or message all of us to get our attention). We take this behavior seriously and will handle the situation discreetly.

A: Moderators are chosen by the Community Manager. Specifically, we look for individuals who show an aptitude for handling escalating situations with patience, kindness, and understanding. When an account meets a certain criteria, it will be enabled to be allowed to submit a sort of application for the position.

This is a general overview of the most common questions we get about Chucklefish. If you still have questions, there is a list of helpful links at the end of the FAQ. We may add more questions and answers as they come up.

A: After the patch system was optimized for consistent updates, a number of smaller patches were released every few days. We tried to put out daily updates, but found that creating a significant amount of content every day was getting in the way of progression, which is what people really wanted to see.

Because of previous delays caused by typical development hiccups and life, we try not to announce release dates. This is not to keep our players in the dark about progress, but to manage the level of disappointment when a set date is not met. As a compromise, we're currently having our developers make small blog updates about their progress which are (usually) posted at the end of every weekday.

We also have a branch of beta you can opt-in to via Steam called “nightly”, which you can find out more about here.

A: Nope! On the contrary, we’ve rented a small office and relocated most of our team to London so that we can work together more efficiently. Relocating people slowed things down for a little bit, but since the move we’ve been much more productive. We’re still working every day to get the game finished. :)

A: Publishing and developing aren't the same thing. Our coders and artists don't need to take any time out of their busy work days to do anything related to publishing. Often Tiy or Mollygos approach developers or developers approach us, and we talk about how we can help them out. Mollygos works with the developers to promote their games and assist in any way we can.

We have another small team working on an as-of-yet unnamed pirate game, but the Starbound team is wholly dedicated to working on Starbound.
