Outdated Skyrails Overhaul 2.1

Better mechanics, more rails.

  1. Apjjm
Latest version: 2.1 (Vanilla version is 2.0)

    Features & Changes
The changes listed are differences to the version in vanilla Starbound.

    Mechanics Changes
    • Gravity no longer requires you to use booster rails to go uphill
      • Manually driving up most rail types using left/right will at least lose no speed.
      • Not manually driving uphill will still require booster rails or the new notched rail.
    • Boost & Break rails made significantly more effective, especially at lower speeds.
    • Speed decays beyond the maximum speed of a rail, instead of getting hard clamped
    • Buff to manual acceleration
    New Content
    • Added race specific descriptions for each rail + table
    • Smooth rails - these have no friction, a higher max speed than boost rails but you are unable to accelerate on them manually.
    • Notched rails - these have high friction, a low max speed but passively accelerate you and never lose momentum uphill, even if you are not accelerating into the hill.
    Recipe Changes
    • All rail recipes now craft in multiples of 5 instead of 3.
    • Booster & breaker rails are slightly cheaper (9 durasteel per 15, vs 10 per 15)
    • Diode rails are more expensive (5 rails per diode up from 3)
    • Switcher rails are cheaper (3 gold per 5, vs 5 gold per 3)
    Bug fixes & Script tweaks
    • Rail equality test & sub-tile offset calculation now use world.distance to avoid resorting to back-up case on world wrap.
    • Reduced rail hook test collision line by 1 unit (this should make jumping up towards rails not snap as harshly)
    • Removed "mod" category from a bunch of recipes

    Installation
    1. Download & unzip the mod. Go to your starbound folder and open the mods folder.
    2. Copy over the "SkyrailsV2m1" folder into the mods folder
    3. Optional: If you would like to be able to craft recipes cheaply for testing, copy over "SkyrailsV2m1-free" too.
    Tips and Tricks
    • Momentum carries onto rails - try falling onto a downwards slope!
    • Hold S while falling to pass through and hook onto a rail
    • Hold Jump+S to drop from a rail, rather than jump.
    • Booster rails have a higher max speed, breaker rails have a slower one.
    • Try smooth rails for downhill slopes if you are already at max speed.
    • Switcher rails need to extend along the rail you wish to switch to by two rails.
    • Diode rails are really powerful, they might even let you make elevators... maybe
    • Use notched rails if you want to go traverse hills without holding a direction key.

Needs some vertical rails in a future update, but this update added many new features the old one needed.

Rails now use 2 times more durasteel? Great balance.

I love the rails system. Is there anyway to make a vertical rail? perhaps a vertical boost rail? I really want to have a rail to space system and doing a diagonal takes forever.... maybe just really long track sections or something? If it is at all possible I would love some feedback

I gave it four stars because, while it looks amazing, I can't figure out how to ride the rails, and I've read BOTH the original mod page and this one.

I equipped the rail tech, built the rails, pressed F multiple times trying to toggle the tech and nothing happens. The tech itself doesn't have any additional information in the tool tip, and there is no tool in the crafting table to make riding possible...

How do you ride the rails?

This filled in so many blanks left by the first skyrail mod. Hope this one gets added to the game too!
